‘Open Your Mind’ is the bands first commercial release and the 10 track album is a melodically furious fusion of massive metal riff’s and catchy as hell vocal’s that is all held together beautifully by a tight as a vice groove driven rhythm section that make all the plaudits this band have received for their live show all the more justified. The first single to be taken from the album ‘One More Road From Home’ proceeds the album on Monday October 25th and is a hugely anthemic slice of metal tinged alternative rock will appeal to fans of bands such as Stone Sour, Shinedown and Alter Bridge.

A chilling account of child abduction and murder, the song accounts for a dark reality that scars the everyday lives of those affected. Beautifully gothic, morbidly fascinating, the hooks and melody line take the listener through each scene, borne out by both the subtle and dramatic aspects of an arrangement that delivers big on atmosphere, style and substance, with piano and cello spreading shade through the sorrow. The searching and heart-felt delivery of Jessica Hardy’s vocal and harmonies capture the fear and the sense of suffocation that unfolds on Murder Lane. 30th April 2012 – Available for download via iTunes

Betamax, have been selected to support Graham Coxon on the opening night
of his UK Tour at the O2 Academy in Oxford on the 13 th April 2012.

Betamax were nominated as a potential support act for one of the forthcoming dates of the tour via the singer-songwriters website. After weeks of deliberation Graham Coxon, whose new album ‘A+E’ was released on April 2nd 2012 on Parlophone Records, selected the band from over a thousand applicants for the first night of his tour.

Betamax, a mod/punk trio, have become notorious as one of the most original and exciting acts on the London circuit with their uncompromising style and explosive stage performances, and this opportunity from the Blur guitarist is seen by many as the big break that they deserve. Bass player / vocalist Bob Sharman (from Waltham Abbey), guitarist / vocalist Rob Lloyd (from Chingford) and drummer Steve Fitch (from Walthamstow) came together as Betamax and played their first gig in February
2003. Since then the band have played hundreds of gigs, recorded and released a number of demos, and in late 2011 they released their first full studio recording of ‘Ninety-Nine’ as a digital download (iTunes, Amazon, etc).
Graham Coxon, who has enjoyed a successful solo career since 1998, releasing 8 albums, asked for bands to be suggested to support him at each of his forthcoming gigs around the UK. Although the website included a voting system for fans, the final decision was ultimately made by Coxon himself. “It’s unbelievable!” said bass player and singer, Bob. “I’ve been a huge fan of Blur – and particularly Graham Coxon – for years, and this is just an incredible opportunity for us. And the fact that this wasn’t all about getting votes, and that he has chosen us for this is just mind-blowing!” Drummer, Steve, said “It’s a real break for us. We’ve been plugging away with this band for a long time now,
and we’ve had some great times, but we’ve never had any real luck in the past. This gig, though, could be a real turning point.”
Betamax, though, are keeping their feet firmly on the ground and know – probably better than most – how tough it is to make a breakthrough in the music industry. But this will almost certainly be the bands biggest gig to date, with the O2 Academy Oxford set to be sold out to its 1350 capacity. Guitarist and singer, Rob added “We’re not getting ahead of ourselves just yet – We’re just looking forward to getting on that stage – It’s going to be a great night, and a great experience!”

Produced by Ric Peet Engineer/Producer who’s credits include Muse, The Charlatans

It all started with a debut album of live recordings titled TEMPORARY ALIEN RESIDENTS originally recorded in 1995 and distributed on the band’s own ‘Little Fish’ label. The album was later taken up and officially released in August 1997 by major label Total / BMG with distribution in UK by Pinnacle. The album consisted of 10 songs recorded live in just two afternoon sessions in the basement of a friend’s house in Hitchin Herts England using seven mics and an 8-track recorder. The band played without separation in one room, hence the natural spill-over ‘wall of sound’ type of effect. No over-tracking or post-production techniques were used. Amazingly, the first 9 songs featured on the album were all ‘first takes’. On the last song the drummer makes a false start by dropping his sticks on the intro and the band fall about laughing, the genuine feel and the light hearted banter had become a talking point among fans and so was included also in the major release. With its no-frills and no post-production, but just a pure raw valve energy of sound captured straight onto disc, it was the record that really introduced Symptom to the world. Got to Band Page
